What is RunDisney?

RunDisney is exactly what it sounds like. It is a collection of races at Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and virtually throughout the year. They are organized officially by Disney and feature races as short as 4K and as long as a Marathon, with some unique challenges in between (e.g., the Dopey Challenge, where one runs a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon in four consecutive days).

A smiling woman with long blonde hair, wearing a purple shirt, ripped jeans, and a green floral accessory on her shoulder, poses in front of a large ‘Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2024’ banner at the RunDisney Expo. The backdrop features stylized illustrations of Disney princesses Rapunzel, Ariel, and Tiana standing over waves, with the RunDisney and Corkcicle logos above them. The setting is decorated with greenery and flowers, adding to the magical race weekend atmosphere.

What is Princess Half Marathon Weekend?

Princess Half Marathon Weekend is one of the most beloved RunDisney race weekends, bringing together runners of all levels to celebrate strength, determination, and a little bit of pixie dust. Taking place in February, this event is inspired by Disney’s iconic princesses and features stunning race themes, gorgeous finisher medals, and magical on-course entertainment. (check the RunDisney website for more up-to-date race information).

One of the biggest draws of this event? The Princess Half Marathon is one of only two RunDisney races that run through Cinderella Castle! The other is the Marathon Weekend Half & Full Marathon—making these races truly special for those who dream of running through the castle at Magic Kingdom!

Why run a RunDisney race?

Running any race is a feat, and some people may call you crazy, but running a Disney race is truly a magical experience. From running through empty Disney Theme Parks and Resorts to the exclusive character meet-and-greets to the unique medals, the RunDisney races are truly a magical experience (and worth the 2:00 a.m. wake-up call).

What races are held during this weekend?

This weekend consists of a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. There is also a challenge for those who want to complete the 10K and half marathon and earn another medal.

This royal race weekend includes:

  • Disney Princess 5K – Mulan (Friday) A 3.1-mile untimed, fun run inspired by the strength and bravery of Mulan. Perfect for all ages and skill levels.

  • Disney Princess Enchanted 10K – Jasmine (Saturday)

A 6.2-mile adventure through Walt Disney World, led by the fearless and independent Princess Jasmine.

  • Disney Princess Half Marathon – Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) (Sunday)

A 13.1-mile race through Disney parks, featuring the magic of Sleeping Beauty and an unforgettable run through Cinderella Castle.

  • Disney Fairytale Challenge – Snow White & The Evil Queen

Take on the fairest challenge of them all with Snow White and her poison apple-wielding nemesis, the Evil Queen! To complete the Fairytale Challenge, runners must finish both the 10K and the Half Marathon.

Finish both races on pace and earn:

✔️ Disney Princess 10K Medal

✔️ Disney Princess Half Marathon Medal

✔️ Disney Fairytale Challenge Medal

That’s a grand total of three medals in one weekend! (To earn the challenge medal, you must register for the Disney Fairytale Challenge, which includes both races.)

Snow White’s frame also includes the Evil Queen in the background, symbolizing the challenge aspect. The runDisney and Disney Princess logos are centered, adding to the magical race theme

What is the schedule of events?

The weekend starts on Thursday with the RunDisney Race Expo, where runners can pick up their bibs at the Wide World of Sports (note: if you are running the 5K, you must pick up your race bib on Thursday, as bibs are not available for pickup at the event).

  • Thursday: RunDisney Expo Opens – Pick up your race bib and shop for exclusive race merchandise at ESPN Wide World of Sports. (Note: 5K runners must pick up their bib on Thursday, as there’s no bib pickup on race day.)

  • Friday: 5K Race (Mulan) – Start time: 5:00 AM

  • Saturday: 10K Race (Jasmine) – Start time: 5:00 AM

  • Sunday: Half Marathon (Sleeping Beauty) – Start time: 5:00 AM

  • Bonus Event: Yoga in front of Cinderella Castle! – A peaceful, princess-perfect experience for runners and Disney fans alike. (Additional registration required)

Unlike Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, there is no after-hours party for Princess Weekend. Instead, runners can celebrate their achievement by exploring the parks, enjoying a celebratory meal, or even booking a spa treatment at one of Disney’s resorts.

The number ‘3’ features an illustration of Ariel from The Little Mermaid in her pink dress, along with Flounder and Sebastian, while the ‘1’ showcases an undersea theme with seaweed, a seashell, and Prince Eric’s castle. Anything Else We Should Know?

While the 5K is not timed, the 10K and half marathon are. You will need to maintain a 16-minute mile to avoid being swept off the course (this time does include stopping for characters and bathroom and water breaks, so just keep that in mind while training). RunDisney offers an official training guide on its website: https://www.rundisney.com/running-training-programs/
